About the Butcher Block
The Butcher Block Deli was initially opened over twenty years ago as a butcher shop by Jim Aveyard. Prior to opening the store Jim had been employed by a local supermarket chain at which time he made two very short and disastrous attempts at a career in show biz. His first try was as a lounge singer in the now defunct "Hog Heaven Bar and Bike Shop" where he (literally) closed the joint after two nights. His second attempt as a stand up comic was only slightly more successful. It was during an experimental stand up improv routine entitled "Salt and Pepper Only" that he was hit on the head by a steak thrown by an irate audience member. Immediately upon regaining consciousness an idea formed to open his own business where he could sell meats of the finest quality.
Today The Butcher Block consists of the meat store, the pizza store and the deli. The meat store offers the only the finest grade meats that are custom cut by Jim and his staff of excellent butchers. A fine selection of pre marinated meats are also available as well as prepared meats such as stuffed chicken breasts, chicken cordon bleu, stuffed pork chops and stuffed pork roasts only to name a few. During the holiday season the Butcher Block is famous for its "East Greenwich Pot Roast."
The Pizza store has won several awards for it's great pizza and is where you can get any kind of pizza from a plain cheese to an exotic Hawaiian or the popular white pizza.
The deli offers all sorts of wonderful hot and cold prepared deli foods and salads, the BEST sandwiches around and a weekday lunch special (that is to die for.) The deli also offers a pick-up catering service as well as delivery.
The long and short of it is that you will be hard pressed to find a food service business that can offer the tastes, the fine quality and great values anywhere. The Butcher Block continues to have many colorful characters who are usually willing to help you, so come on in and give us a try and if by chance Jim tries to serenade you, ask him to tell you a joke instead... (you'll enjoy it much more... I promise.)
